Words I Live By Series: Honesty

Honesty is the ultimate test as a human being because a lie can be more convenient than the truth.  When a woman asks a man, “Do you think I look fat in this dress?” If you are a smart guy and value your life you will say, “No, you look great, honey!”  No matter your opinion, you want your woman to feel good about her self so you make up a small lie to comfort her.

If you want to go on a short vacation from work you call your boss and tell them in a sick voice, “Hi John, I’m sorry but I cannot come in today because I’m feeling really sick.”  Another popular small lie goes like this, “I really like you and everything but we are just not working out. It’s not you, it’s me.”

The truth can be difficult to hear, when you speak your mind some people will attack you because they simply dislike or strongly disagree with your opinion but the truth will set you free.

The best relationships are those built on love, trust, and respect.  You cannot have one without the other.  When you love somebody you must respect them enough so they can trust you with their opinions and thoughts.  It is selfish to expect your loved ones to shackle up their true self just to please you.  Nobody wants to walk on eggshells to avoid your verbal attacks.

Sometimes small lies seem fine since they are not hurting another person physically or mentally but it is highly imperative that you be honest to the best of your ability, in all situations.  When you become too comfortable with lying, you start to get out of control with the lying and before you know it, you start believing your own lies.  Next comes having no problem cheating on your wife, girlfriend, family, friends, employer, taxes, etc.

You can only lie, cheat, or steal for so long until it starts catching up to you.  Before you end up in jail, seriously injured or dead you have to realize that the world does not revolve around you.

The worst lie you can tell is the one that does wrong by your family, friends, and significant other.  Why would you wrong those that you love and who put their trust in you?  Lies and deceit can only bring you temporary gratification until you end up alone and depressed.

Life becomes a significantly better place when you accept the honorable mission of honesty, which involves treating those around you with respect by accepting their differences of opinion, living together in a peaceful serenity, sharing thoughts freely without having your throat being ripped out.

A Birthday Dedication to my Step Mom, Debbie!

This small haven for expression, my blog, where my ideas explore numerous aspects of life’s magnificent beauty and highlights the incredibly special people in my life like my Step Mom, Debbie.  I would like to dedicate this post to you, Deb on your Birthday!  I cannot forget how much I appreciate you being a Step Mom who really cares, one who has continuously has gone out of her way to be there to help out my brother and I.

You not only accepted my Dad’s hand in marriage but you graciously accepted the responsibility of being a second Mom to my brother and I.  My brother and I have not always made it easy on you because stubborn boys are a hand full that tests every bit of patience and dedication within your soul.

Through thick and thin, you have been there to lift my spirits, allowing me to appreciate the love of family; you have created the opportunity for family to come together, grow through loving participation with each other’s lives, developing unification.  Whatever happens in life, I know that we will be together as a family to take on the world as one.

It takes a dedicated and loving person to go above and beyond the call of duty as a Step Mom.  You have a heart of gold, and became a significant part of the family; you wanted to make a positive difference to our lives and touched my heart in the process.

No matter the challenge involved with fixing a problem or issue, you step up and assist in helping me overcome a problem that I’m struggling with.  To have you in our lives is a blessing and it means the world to me that you stuck with us all these years.  You are an amazing person.

You are a gem to my life and the love within your heart brings out the best in me.  Thank you for being a part of my life and thank you for being there for me when I needed you the most. The love that dwells in my heart for you will always hold a special place full of wonderful memories.

Happy Birthday, Deb!

Dedication to you, Mom on your Birthday!

Words cannot express how blessed I am to be brought into this world by the most caring, sweetest, loving, dedicated Mom you will find.  It amazes me every day how caring my Mom is to everyone around her and especially to those she loves.  Whenever I spend time with you Mom, you brighten my soul and whole being.

The time with you is priceless and unforgettable, I cherish every moment with you, Mom.  Your easygoing, positive personality is a breath of fresh air in this world full of drama.  You give me tremendous strength through your kind soul and the many obstacles you’ve overcome in your life.  You make me proud, Mom.  I know deep down in my heart that my Mom loves my brother and I with all her heart and soul.

Everything my Mom has ever done has always been in the best interests of my brother and I; Mom is the most selfless person I have ever known.  The toughest decision my Mom has ever had to make was when my brother and I stayed to live with our Dad in Carpinteria after our parents divorce.  My Mom knew that the school system in Carpinteria was leagues above Lake Isabella and the area was more suited to meet the needs of my brother and I.  The three-hour difference was tough but my brother and I got to see our Mom on a fairly regular basis.

As a parent you have to make difficult choices, to make sacrifices, and put your kids before your own wants and desires.  My Mom made the best decision for my brother and I.  Going to school in Carpinteria saved me from disappointment and frustration in my life because the accommodations made for my physical limitations were amazing in the Carpinteria School District.  The fact is that were it not for the loving dedication of my parents, I would not be the man I am today.

You mean the world to me, Mom.  Thank you for making my world a beautiful place and thank you for always being there for me.  You are a true blessing to my life; the grace of your presence brings a smile to my face.  Whenever life gets me down, thinking of you always lifts my spirits.  I love you with all my heart.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Love, Robbie
